Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. There is something for everyone – no matter what the season. The city is a melting pot of cultures. It is beautiful thanks to it’s location, its nature and its people. You will find it difficult to experience this city in only a few days. Here are the top 100 things you HAVE to do in Cape Town, whether you’re a visitor or a local.

#1 Lions Head

Lions Head in Cape Town is the distinctive shaped mountain slope found alongside Table Mountain. The proud lion overlooks the city and Table Bay on one side, and the scenic Atlantic Ocean coastline on the other.

#2 Abseil off Table Mountain cape town

Abseiling Table Mountain is a thrilling experience of adrenaline and achievement. A 112 metre controlled descent off Cape Town’s magnificent Table Mountain. Step off the top, at 1000 metres above sea level, and abseil into pure vertical space. This is the world’s highest commercial abseiling point. You are surrounded by awesome views and the deep blue Atlantic at your feet.

#3 Run the Two Oceans Marathon

The world’s most beautiful marathon – 56km Ultra Marathon around the Cape Peninsula, since 1970.

The 48th consecutive Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon will remain on the traditional route via Chapman’s Peak, Hout Bay and Constantia Nek (unless deemed unsafe by authorities in which case the Ou Kaapse Weg route (prior to 2004) will be used). The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is run under the rules of IAAF, Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Western Province Athletics (WPA).

#4 Take a Cable car up Table Mountain

The mountain’s magnetism has a way of drawing people in, compelling them to reach the summit and explore its flat top. Before the cable car was installed, getting to the top was not easy. In 1912, with a strong desire to make the mountain accessible for visitors, the Cape Town City Council commissioned an engineer to investigate the various options for public transport to the top.

#5 Visit Robben Island

Robben Island is famous, or rather infamous, as the holding place for the imprisoned Nelson Mandela. Mandela served 18 of his 27 years in prison incarcerated on the island’s prison, but Robben Island has also housed a hospital, mental institution, leper colony and military base during its rich history.

#6 Visit Cape Point

Embark on an incredible journey around the Cape Peninsula. Stroll with Penguins at Boulders Beach. See where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet at the Cape of Good Hope. Dine in the seaside village of Simon’s Town. Taste wine in historic Constantia.

#7 Run the Gun Run

Looking for a group to train with in preparation for the Gun Run, then come and join us for our Wednesday Warm-Up runs. Meet at the Atlantic Athletic Club gazebo on the field next to the Lighthouse in Mouille Point to start running at 6pm. You can choose between a 5km and an 8km, with both routes heading out towards Bantry Bay along the Sea Point Promenade. It’s impossible to get lost and it’s a safe running environment. Mother Nature usually treats us to a stunning sunset, so make a plan to end your Wednesdays with a run.
